SUHUM CELEBRATES GREEN GHANA DAY

The Suhum Municipality has organized it’s green Ghana Day celebration on 7th June 2024 under the theme: Growing for a Greener Tomorrow, No tree, No life, plant tress, save lives .

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Margaret Darko Darkwa stated that the government commitment to aggressive afforestation and reforestation has led to the cultivation of approximately 721,000 hectares of forest between 2017 and 2023 under the forest Plantation and Strategy. She continued that climate crisis has  worsened globally, with rising temperatures impacting health, food production and water access. She said, the green Ghana project is a vital measure to combat climate change and protect our planet by planting trees and fighting against deforestation and degradation.

She indicated that, this years project is targeted to plant 10 Million tree seedlings across the country, out of which six million would be planted in degraded forest reserves, whiles 4 million would be planted within and around farms, degraded watershed areas, within communities, medians of roads, among others. She urged all to remember that when the last tree dies, the last man dies. Therefore we should all  joined hands to save our planet.

The Municipal Agric Director, Mr. Dzisah Kofi Samuel said, it estimated that Ghana loose its forest cues of 65,000 hectares annually. He add that this among other has norven the issue of climates change with it attendant consequencies of low crop yield. He started that it has therefore become necessary to join the green Ghana project to reserved our diminished forest resources. He concluded by encouraging everyone to get involved in this project.

The Forest Range Manager, Sakyi Yaw Ofosu Stated that, the green Ghana project was initiated by the President of Ghana in 2021 under the Ministry of land and natural resources in the year. He emphasized that 10 Million trees were planted in 2021, 5 Million in  2022, 20 Million in 2023 and 10 Million is targeted to be planted in 2024 for a Greener Ghana. He encouraged everyone to plant a tree for greener Tomorrow.

The Chair Person, Chief of Jato Nene Teitey Adjewi Narh iii Thanked all for coming in their in their numbers. He advised all to support the vision of the green Ghana project by watering the trees that has been planted to sustain it live..
