The Suhum Municipality today, joined the nation in observing National Sanitation Day with a highly successful cleanup exercise.  The event, spearheaded by the Suhum Municipal Assembly, saw enthusiastic participation from residents, staff of the Assembly, Zoomlion Ghana Limited,Ghana Police Service, Ghana fore service and other key stakeholders.

The exercise, which commenced at 6:00 am, focused on the Suhum Market, principal streets and other selected residential areas.  The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Lydia Ohenewa , MP  Hon.Frank Asiedu Bekoe for Suhum, led the cleanup efforts, setting a powerful example for the community.  Hon. MCE emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, highlighting its direct impact on public health and economic development.  “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” the MCE stated, “and today’s exercise is a testament to our commitment to improving the sanitation landscape of Suhum.”

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a key partner in the municipality’s sanitation efforts, deployed several trucks and a substantial workforce to effectively collect waste generated during the cleanup.  Their efficient waste management played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the exercise. Representatives from Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service ,stakeholders involved, local NGOs, schools, religious organizations, were also actively involved, demonstrating a strong sense of community ownership.

The day’s activities also included  educational talks on waste management, distribution of sanitation-related materials].  These initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of responsible sanitation practices among residents.

The Suhum Municipal Assembly expressed its gratitude to all participants for their dedication and commitment, pledging to sustain the momentum generated by National Sanitation Day through continued collaborative efforts to enhance sanitation standards within the municipality.  The Assembly also reiterated its commitment to working with Zoomlion and other stakeholders to ensure the long-term sustainability of sanitation improvements in Suhum.
